Tangled Suspension

Tangled Suspension

Oil on Canvas (11" x 11") I began this piece during the summer of 2013. It started as a still life of a statue my mother had. Unsure of where to take it, I left it alone for over a year. I pulled it out and decided to finally finish it. Using six colors, I painted a complex of vines and flowers that wrapped the doves and the branches. The vines create a dramatic and tense atmosphere, yet the flowers imply rebirth and renewal.

Galactic Bird

Galactic Bird

Ink on Paper (6" x 9") This is one of a series of prints I had completed in a workshop at The Anderson Ranch Arts center in Snowmass, Colorado. This was my first attempt at etching into a copper plate. After several tests and additions, I ended up including a repetitive organic material that grows into this galactic area. The clash between yellow and blue, light and dark, emphasizes a divide.

Nature's Imprint

Nature's Imprint

Ink on Paper (9" x 6") This is one of a series of prints I had completed in a workshop at The Anderson Ranch Arts center in Snowmass, Colorado. I collected aspen leaves, pine branches, dandelion seeds, and pieces of pinecone and set them up on a copper plate. I then quickly sketched a bird. My intention with this was to use the colors yellow, green, and brown appropriately.

Love's Reflection

Love's Reflection

Oil on Canvas (11" x 14") I received the photographer’s permission to be able to paint this picture. I studied water’s reflection of a sunset’s colors. I also incorporated a personal touch to the clouds by making a mass of various colors. The glow of the woman’s dress comes from the intense love between her and her husbands recent marriage.

Capture

Capture

Oil on Canvas (11" x 14") Inspired by my friend, I sought to paint the connection between the photographer and their instrument. The connection is shown through the green glow around the camera. This glow symbolizes her intense passion for photography. Green has been associated with environment, energy, harmony, and nature. The environment in which this photographer finds that she creates an energy between the herself and the camera.

Reach

Reach

Oil on Canvas (14" x 11") The light created in this situation is the pink hue of the larger hand when the smaller hand is in contact with it. The happiness they share is a physical phenomenon. The distortion in the hands signifies that something important is happening beneath the surface. Whether it be love, a bond, or an act of friendship is up to the individual viewing the piece.

The Kayaker

The Kayaker

Oil on Canvas (14" x 11") This painting tells the story of a man’s inner glow and passion which is reflected in the water as he does what he loves; kayaking. The glow surrounds the man and is even caused by his movements within the kayak and within the kayak and with the paddling of the oar. He is creating his own light.

The Bookcase

The Bookcase

Mixed Media Paint on Plywood (4’ x 6’) This artwork is what inspired me to pursue set design experiences. It was the very first set piece I had ever designed; a bookcase for the school’s fall play “Superfreaks”. I learned how to create a life sized painting and use perspective to fool the eye.

Scratchy Girl

Scratchy Girl

Mixed Media on Paper (15.5” x 21”) This was an assignment for my AP Studio Art Class. The intention was to create a self portrait with chalk and charcoal. I usually am very detailed and precise with my artwork. I was able to be loose with this one. The white lines were inspired by seagulls I had seen while visiting my family in Florida. I included them in the self portrait due to the connection I had developed with birds.

Laid Back

Laid Back

Acrylic on Paper (12” x 8”) This was an assignment from class where we chose an image of an artist and chose two colors that portray the music of the artist. I used purple and blue to imply slow, calm, and relaxed music in this portrait. Thus began my adventure of creating three dimensional figures using shades and a light source.
